Lay's has decided to create a line of popcorn snacks with modern, interesting flavours to appeal to new customers. These upscale snacks are unique to the market, adventurous and make a lifestyle statement.
Design Objective
For this project, I was asked to design packaging for an imagined new line of Lay's popcorn snacks that is upscale and targeted toward individuals who shop at stores like Pusateri's and Whole Foods. This sequence of popcorn snacks would contain two different flavours: Chocolate Chili and Smoked Ancho & Cheese. The packaging was to have a strong sub-branding of the name "Poppt!" and depict a fresh, modern and sophisticated brand personality.

Colour Palette
Inspiration & Ideation
I started by looking for inspiration through Pinterest to gain a general idea of how I wanted my packaging to look and jotted down some ideas of how colour, type and composition could play a role in the final product.
Process
I then started to explore different typefaces, colour palettes and patterns and went through many different ideas to solidify a colour palette and overall composition.
Final Logos
After several critiques with classmates and feedback from my professor, this was the logo that I ended up sticking with as it was both fun and bubbly but still upscale.
Final Design
This project consisted of many different phases and I was gaining consistent feedback through each of them from both my professor and classmates. One thing I really struggled with and overcame throughout this project was maintaining a fresh and fun look while still depicting a sophisticated, high-end brand identity. I overcame this by simplifying the packaging, creating a monochromatic look but adding small but fun elements such as the popcorn bubbles, the brush stroke under the flavour name and the popcorn bucket outline. I learned that small details like this could elevate the packaging while still maintaining a formal look.
